Halloween Candy Drive Collection for US Troops

By: Laura Bevington

Two major TV networks already have their interviews ready to air from October 30th until Wednesday Nov 5th. Because this idea has become one that dentists all over the nation are involved in this year, I have invited many of my colleagues from all over the Delaware Valley to join in. A list of all the offices involved will be on listed on our website. This is a charity that runs on care and energy, not major corporate dollars. With Election Day following closely after this event, we need as much pre-holiday exposure as possible.

This year we seek to break our national record, set last year of 5600 pounds of Halloween candy collected through our dental drive. The troops use this candy to befriend local children, to promote democracy, and to gather information.

We would like the help of local school PTA’s, athletic leagues, and businesses. We will be collecting candy on November 1, 3,4, and 5. We seek media exposure to help expose the message of how dentist are helping the nationwide cause and cooperation. Call our office if you can help with donations.

Thanks to the help of NFI Freight, we will have a trailer at our New Jersey dental office, on site for collection. We also hope to have several US soldiers here to thank the kids. The candy will all be shipped to Keystone Soldiers, who last year incurred expenses of almost $10,000 to get the candy overseas. This year, we will be asking local businesses and individuals who care, to write a check as a donation to Keystone Soldiers. Information about this organization can be found, on their web, at KeystoneSoldiers.com.

“Not only are we providing materiel to the troops, but we are also preventing tooth decay in New Jersey, and nationally, by taking this candy off the streets. The kids who’ve taken part in this the past several years have truly gotten the understanding of charitable giving. They are taking something that was valuable to them, and giving it to others who need it more than they do. The letters that some children wrote to our soldiers, to accompany the cartons of candy were heartwarming.
