Hot and amazing ideas for your Holidays

By: Jessica Thomson

In the summer season people generally like to go for their holiday in such a place which provides them with lot of sunshine. The beaches are naturally their favorite place to enjoy holidays. One of the popular places for the Britishers to enjoy their holiday is Cyprus.
The popularity of this place for the Britishers as a holiday destination is because of the reason that the country was ruled by the British before it became independent in 1960. The travelers also feel they are still at home because people in Cyprus speak in English as it is their second language. All the road signs are in Greek and English and the vehicles drives to the left of the road as in UK.
Another reason of popularity of Cyprus as a holiday destination is because of beautiful weather and its beaches. The country enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine in a year and temperature in winter rarely goes below 18°C in winter. In fact, the country enjoys mild Mediterranean weather throughout the year.
The other attraction of this island is that it provides you many sandy beaches along with private bays where one can enjoy all the sun shine and the sea.
Cyprus became independent from the British rule in 1960.There was a long period of strife between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot population of the island after independence. In 1974, an attempted coup d'état by Greek Cypriots led to Turkey invading the island. This led to de-facto division of the country into two parts with the northern part becoming a separate republic which is recognized only by Turkey. Because of this, Northern Cyprus is not so well known to tourists visiting the island.
People visit the island to enjoy the sunshine and beaches as well as its culture. Those visiting Northern Cyprus will be enjoying similar amenities here too. Because tourism in Northern Cyprus is less developed and not so popular, tourists to these places would enjoy quieter and more private holiday. But, the authorities are trying to develop tourist potentials of this region and so, before long, enjoying such a holiday will become a thing of the past.
The capital of the country is Nicosia. This city is divided between both the administrations. Old Nicosia in the southern part of the city houses some of the best museums in Cyprus. This area also has small, charming streets having traditional shops and cafes. In northern Nicosia, you may visit Selima mosque, which was originally built as St Sophia Cathedral in 1228, and converted into a mosque in 1570.
A visit to Cyprus would definitely provide with an amazing holiday experience.
